ABOUT US

🪶 Unbridled Sanctuary (US) is a living story -- a place of renewal, a return to slowness, to presence, and to reverence.

Here, horses are heard.
They are respected.
They are deeply understood.

Founded in 2004 by equestrian and advocate Susan Kayne, Unbridled began with a vow: to protect retiring racehorses from slaughter and to offer them the one thing they had never known—a lifelong safety net. A place where, no matter what, they could always come home.

That vow became a mission.
That mission became a movement.

Unbridled is home to more than 65 rescued horses, donkeys, and mules—each living a life of belonging, dignity, and honor.

You’ll meet equines with names, memories, and voices.
You’ll witness stories of grace, healing, and transformation.
You’ll come to know not only what they’ve overcome,
but who they are now—free, flourishing, and fully themselves.

At Unbridled, each horse is a living testament to what becomes possible
when relationship is rooted in respect, and protection is a promise kept for life.

🪶 Unbridled is a threshold—and you’re already at the gate.
Enter a world where horses are heard, honored, and home.

Upcoming Birthday: February 8, 2027

Happy 28th Birthday BRIDE

Bride’s journey to Unbridled began on Leap Day 2020. Today, we celebrate her 28th birthday as one of our most cherished elders in Sanctuary.

Bride was rescued from the direct pen of Rotz Livestock in Pennsylvania, where she stood alongside Lovey, an Arabian mare, both emaciated, sickly, and just hours away from losing their precious lives. They had been cast aside, their years of service reduced to nothing more than a final transaction for slaughter. But UNBRIDLED stepped in and reshaped their futures.

When we met Bride, she was bone-weary and broken, her body marked by scars of past use. Thickened tendons, white patches of hair from an ill-fitting harness, and a bald tail dock bore silent witness to the toll of relentless labor. She had given all she had, and in return, she had been discarded.

The weight of her past clung to her even after rescue. Upon arrival at UNBRIDLED, her head hung low, her steps slow and tired. She would collapse into her deep bed of shavings, sleeping for hours at a time, her body twitching in restless dreams.

But love has the power to heal.

Slowly, through patient care, kind hands, and the unwavering promise of safety, Bride began to heal. She learned that she was seen, she was valued, and she was home.

Today, Bride is thriving. She greets visitors with a quiet grace, her presence a testament to the power of second chances. She is a living embodiment of why we fight for the dignity of senior mares, why we believe in the right of every horse to grow old with love and peace.

Join us in celebrating Bride’s 28th Birthday Shower her with love, wishes, and gratitude for the incredible journey she has traveled.

Because of you—our supporters, donors, and advocates—Bride’s life is now one of peace, protection, and unwavering love. Your support ensures that senior mares like Bride are seen, valued, and given the Sanctuary they deserve.

Happy Birthday, Bride! May this year be your most wonderful yet.
